Department Of Shalyatantra
Introduction
Shalya Tantra is one of the 8 branches of Ayurveda which deals with treatment of surgical diseases. Any pathology that is troubling the body is called as Shalya. Modalities to treat this pathology comes under Shalya Tantra Department. Department is providing services of various surgical and parasurgical procedures to patients. Surgery, Leech Therapy, Ksharsutra, Agnikarma etc are done in department. Integrated approach is adopted in teaching of various skills to students e.g. like suturing, bandaging.
Objectives
- To impart the basic knowledge and surgical principles described in Shalya tantra by various Acharyas.
- Students will be able to diagnose common surgical diseases according to Ayurveda and Modern medicine
- They will be trained and acquire basic skills to perform varies karmas i.e. Asthaviddha shastra karma (Excision, incision and drainage, suturing, vedhan, Agnikarma, Rakta Mokshan,Ksharsutra,Cupping Therapy).

- Manniqquins dummies for basic trauma life support course and cardio pulmonary resuscitation.
- Models for suturing techniques, ksharsutra application, ksharkarma for practical training.
Departmental Activities
- Hernia surgery camp, piles surgery camp, hydrocele surgery , osteoarthritis, urinary stone camps are organized annually.Allopathic surgeons in the laparoscopy and endoscopy specialty are invited for lecture and demonstrations.
- Renowned Ayurvedic surgeons are invited as guest lecture on varies Shalyatantra subjects.
